Scila

EARLY HISTORY

Scila (pron. SIE'LUH) was formed as a splinter community off of a few collapsed elven colonies near the Sakea Forest that were dissembled by The Archivist. Since it was not particularly developed relative to the other cities, it did not attract its attention. Due to being the only elven city in the area to survive, it began to be seen as a safe haven, and eventually, a sort of religious paradise.

GEOGRAPHY

Scila is not so much located within the Sakea Forest as it is the Sakea Forest. The forest is thick, covered in vines and shrubbery where the massive trees do not stand.

Buildings, including houses, are nestled among the trees, attached directly to the trunks. There are structures analogous to bridges haphazardly scattered between each building, almost like a spiderweb.

The town is centered around a large obelisk, known as the Tower of Scila. It is believed to be natural in origin, existing well before even the ancient settlers of Scila appeared. Its purpose is unknown, though recent studies show it might be a living being, at least in some capacity.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Scila is mostly composed of elves, but it is not by a wide margin. Many ethnic groups have found home in the city, as Scila does not as high of a barrier of entry as other peripheral cities.

Religiously, Lemphisa is the most worshipped deity, with Utierres following closely behind. Utierres is viewed uniquely in Scila, however. He is seen as a guiding sage that is at peace with nature, and loves all of its creatures, in contrast with the bloodthirsty brute he is often depicted as continent wide, even where he is worshipped.

SOCIETAL STRUCTURE

Scila can almost be viewed as groups of insulated smaller cities than one large composite unit. Houses and buildings connected to each other deal in trade extremely frequently, forming tight knit communities that share nearly everything. These small groups have different cultures, social standards, and more, but ultimately fall under the same jurisdiction legally.

Scila does not possess a formal government, but it does have a council consisting of 10 members from the most populous of the treeborn communities. They convene annually to make decisions on how the city should conduct itself moving forth.

Scila's economy relies on exporting crops, specializing in magical components and items (such as staffs and orbs). It also is well known for its rich vineyards which produce unique flavors of wine.
