R'alaemaq

DOMAIN

R'alaemaq (pron. RAUL'UH'MOCK) is associated first and foremost with the ocean and its surrounding phenomena (waves, malestroms, the tides, etc). He is also heavily linked to storms among many of his followers. Out of all the gods, he has the most disparate cults attributing him to other things as well. Some view him as a god of vengeance, some of insanity, some of heroism.

ORIGIN

R'alaemaq was not born R'alaemaq, only given that name later in life following his ascension. Not much of his early life is known, but it is said he became a sailor at an early age, as well as some training in magic. He remained a sailor for the entirety of his mortal life. Around the time he was 40, he became captain of his own vessel.

Roughly two years after purchasing this vessel, he would encounter the Leviathan while transporting cargo. The ship had to be abandoned, and all of his crew but R'alaemaq succumbed to the powerful psychic influence of the Leviathan. He was able to escape to a nearby island, and after a hard few months in the wilderness, was able to make it back to civilization.

In those months in the wilderness, however, he developed a monomaniacal obsession with the Leviathan, perhaps a side effect of its powers, perhaps entirely natural. Despite the warnings of almost everyone he met, he vowed to take its life. He took out a massive loan, procured a new ship, and assembled a new crew of 8 he reportedly referred to as "the maddest he could find".

They sailed out to the Leviathan's last known location, and swiftly encountered it. After exchanging some cannonfire, the beast is said to have devoured the ship whole, leaving only the men inside it. All 8 of his crew members were horribly transfigured abominations at this point, but R'alaemaq's sheer will and prior exposure was able to protect him for the time being. With the time he had, he frantically attacked the beast from the inside, eventually managing to defeat it.

The victory came with quite the silver lining, however. R'alaemaq was a vaguely humanoid mass at this point, unrepairable even with the powers of a god. His crew members were unfortunately also seemingly beyond saving, although some versions of the account disagree, positing they became part of him.

APPEARANCE AND DEPICTIONS

R'alaemaq is a bizzare looking being, but if one looks hard enough, they can observe his original body. His original eyes, mouth, and other facial features are still partially in tact. Two structures resembling arms can be viewed, as well as a leg. The other leg, being wooden, is seemingly unaffected.

Surrounding him are several tentacles, which move in a bizarre way, almost as if independent. They each have their own variable amounts of eyes.

Depictions of R'alaemaq vary wildly between religious groups. Some brush over his imperfections, and portray him as a sort of octopus deity, while others show him more precisely as he appears. Some make a devil of him more, adding more horrific features to make him resemble one of the old gods.

ABILITIES

R'alaemaq has been observed mostly using lightning magic, and is extremely proficient with it. It is speculated, however, he could perform almost any kind of magic if he willed it and be just as destructive.

Besides the ones that act as his extremities, R'alaemaq's tentacles are capable of detaching and reforming into their own creature if he so wills it. On one occasion, he allegedly even formed one of them into a weapon.
