Latisc
EARLY HISTORY
Latisc (pron. LUH'TISK) was founded as a colony of the ancient elven kingdom of Selisa, who has since been eradicted and lost to time. They no longer exist on their original continent, seemingly having disappeared overnight hundreds of years ago. Latisc was left standing, however, and stands as the only record of Selisan culture.
GEOGRAPHY
Latisc is located near the Ocideus River's estuary, on the west coast of Tellia. This has provided it direct access to the Serene Sea, allowing it to export and import goods with ease.
The city is situated within a forested area, though it is not very thick. The immediate area around Latisc is clear, save for a few palm trees and shrubs nested within it. Most of the city is characterized by being bright and colorful, especially the sandy south edge that all but touches the Ocideus.
DEMOGRAPHICS
Latisc is ethnically composed mostly of elves, specifically high elves. They hold a wide majority, but there are also significant amounts of humans, as well as half elves.
By far, the most worshipped deity is Khisma, whose cultural presence has influenced the entirety of Latiscan society. In second by quite a long ways is R'alaemaq, who holds some space in the collective consciousness due to the geographic proximity to the ocean.
SOCIETAL STRUCTURE
Latisc is the most formal and bureaucratic of the major cities by far. It holds control over a few neighboring smaller city-states that fall under the umbrella of the "Republic of Latisc". Every process conducted is thoroughly documented and stored within the cities central archives. At the head of Latisc's government is an official known as the High Lord, who is elected via voting, along with a complementary cabinet of individuals who have similar political views. The current High Lord as of publishing 17TH ED is Elmar Terrecal.
Latisc's economy is largely based on its technological exports. Many major magical contraptions and trinkets trace their origin back to Latisc, whether it be within the halls of a university or an independent experimenter. Besides that, Latisc proves to be immensely popular as a destination for nobles from abroad to travel to, as it boasts a calm, tropical climate.
