Jailur
EARLY HISTORY
Jailur (pron. JIE'LURE) was originally founded hundreds of years ago, the crown jewel of some forgotten orcish empire. However, Jailur as it stands today, is an echo of what it once was. The original Jailur was completely devoured by The Rot, leaving almost nothing behind under the nest of biological material. It was only "rebuilt" around 200 years ago, reclaimed by the descendants of those who lived in the original colony.
GEOGRAPHY
Jailur, despite being in the middle of the otherwise wild northeastern rainforest, has quite easy to navigate terrain. The Rot consumed everything within the immediate area, leaving it more analogous to plains than a forest.
The city itself looks almost more like ruins on the blank landscape, mostly made from coarse black bricks imported from overseas, strangely combined with the rainforest's contrasting light wood. The ground has been unnaturally smoothed and rounded to the point of looking extremely uncanny to some, inspiring a unique form of madness referred to as "Jailur syndrome".
There are no natural geographical wonders surrounding Jailur, a wonder of sort in itself. The area surrounding Jailur that has been permanently stripped of life is known as the Dead Zone coloquially.
DEMOGRAPHICS
Jailur is mostly inhabited by orcs, a holdover from the original kingdom. Half-orcs have joined their ranks however, as well as generally any individual who could claim orcish ancestry.
Religiously, it is largely uniform. Utierres is the deity of choice for most, since he originated from the original city of Jailur, and freed it from the Rot.
Shaffat is a popular alternative or complementary deity as well, as the memory of tragedy courts a certain reverence for justice, and a certain fear of death.
SOCIETAL STRUCTURE
Jailur is the least self sufficient of all the major cities. It relies on overseas trade the most, with its economy mostly revolving around exporting the unique plant and animal products of the surrounding rainforest.
Jailur's government is a variant of the traditional monarchy, derived from the ancient imperial system present in old Jailur. The emperor holds absolute power over all matters, and answers only to his court. The current emperor, as of publishing 17TH ED, is Mott Dulut, said to be a direct descendant of the ancient Jailur emperor Yar Dulut.
